Damien Bates is expecting to see a reaction from Sheffield when they face back-to-back meetings with Redcar to decide their League Cup campaign.

Tigers host the Bears at Owlerton tomorrow with the return at the South Tees Motorsport Park on Good Friday.

And co-promoter Bates says the riders need a good display in front of their home fans after two successive defeats.

He said: “I’m confident the lads can hit back and they need to.

“Especially after the performance at Newcastle on Sunday which wasn’t good enough.

“As a management we were unhappy to say the least.#

“Only a couple of riders came away from there with any pride in their performance.

“Young Josh [Bates] battled hard at reserve and possibly deserved more for his efforts.

“And I’m confident he will prove to be a good rider for Sheffield.

“But we need to hit back, starting tomorrow. If we are going to progress in the League Cup, which we looked like doing until we hit the buffers last Thursday, then we need to win both meetings with Redcar.

“I know Joe Screen will get the lads wound up.

“And I also know the riders are hurting from the Newcastle defeat.

“Thursday will be a great way to start the Easter weekend.”

Bates has also revealed how the club are giving away 100 Easter eggs to children attending tomorrow with a paying adult.

He said: “It’s very much on a first come, first served basis.

“But it’s a great way to start Easter by coming to the speedway at one of the UK’s best venues.

“Parents can bring their children for a great night of racing and the kids can enjoy an Easter egg on us.

“But this is for the first 100 and once they’re gone, they’re gone.”
