Andre Compton is desperate to get some Tigers home matches under his belt - starting against Newcastle tonight (7.45).

The former Premier League Riders’ Champion has been handed the captaincy on his return to the side after three years in retirement.

And he believes home meetings will help him get back to his best which would be a massive boost to Sheffield’s season.

He said: “I’m working hard to get some better results over the next few weeks. The key to it will be getting some good home meetings in and I’m confident that will come which in turn will boost my away form.

“Having had a few years out has done me a world of good. I’m enthusiastic again and I admit that I’d lost quite a bit of that before because I had been racing for 17 seasons and I was ready for a break.

“That enthusiasm has returned and it means I’m not going through the motions and I do have that purpose back.

“I love Sheffield, everyone knows how much I enjoy riding that track and I’m looking forward to getting back racing regularly there.”

Tigers have booked Workington man Richard Lawson as guest cover for injured skipper Simon Stead who is out for the rest of the season with a badly broken leg.

Australian Damien Koppe is set to return to the side after recovering from shoulder damage.

The Diamonds, meanwhile, are without classy Swedish star Ludvig Lindgren who is required in his home country and is replaced by local youngster James Sarjeant. They will utilise the rider replacement facility to cover for the injured Christian Henry.

SHEFFIELD: Richard Lawson, Joe Haines, Ricky Wells, Andre Compton, Adam Roynon, Damien Koppe, Facundo Albin.

NEWCASTLE: Richie Worrall, Christian Henry R/R, Andrew Tully, James Sarjeant, Stuart Robson, Chris Schramm, Lewis Kerr.
