Speedway Report: Sheffield Tigers 51 Redcar Bears 41

The Window Centre Tigers will be looking to make it two wins in the space of 24 hours following last night’s 51-41 victory over the Bears at Owlerton.

The Tigers stamped their authority on the meeting early doors as three heat advantages in the opening four races saw them open up a ten-point lead.

Reserves Arthur Sissis and Nathan Greaves followed by Josh Bates and Kyle Howarth combined for back-to-back 5-1’s before Greaves took advantage of an engine failure from Redcar’s Lee Payne to come through for third as Dimitri Berge led a 4-2 in heat four.

However, Sheffield’s run of injury woe continued in heat five as Bates was forced to withdraw from yet another meeting. The Barnsley racer flipped his machine and landed heavily on the start-line suffering suspected concussion in the process.

With the Bears’ Andersen on a tactical ride, Howarth outgated his opponents to limit the damage to a 5-3 against.

A series of 3-3’s would follow as the Tigers maintained a 10-point advantage.

With former Tiger Hugh Skidmore coming down on bend three in the original staging of heat ten, Berge and Simon Stead capitalised with a perfect gate to secure a third 5-1 of the night.

Two further shared heats would follow as Berge picked up his fourth win of the evening in the eleventh before Howarth pulled off the move of the night in the twelfth.

Redcar reserve Simon Nielsen led before Howarth squeezed around the outside on the exit of bend two on the third lap.

That would be the Tigers’ final race winner of the evening, but they would have already have done enough to secure another important three Premier League points.
