SHEFFIELD’S James Woods has emerged as Great Britain’s next big Olympic medal hope after claiming the nation’s first snowsport World Cup win in eight years in Ushuaia, Argentina yesterday.

The 20-year-old made a spectacular start to the new Slopestyle season, producing a thrilling display to finish clear in first place with a score of 90.4 and collect valuable points towards qualification for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.

Woods, whose sights are set on Sochi where Slopestyle - in which skiers are judged on freestyle manoeuvres on a downhill course filled with jumps and rails - will feature for the first time, said the inspiration of London 2012 had spurred him on.
