Snooker’s man of the moment Mitchell Travis admits it would be a “dream come true” to compete in next year’s World Championships.

Buoyed by defeating world number six Marco Fu in the first round of the UK Championship today, the 21-year-old admits playing at The Crucible represents the Holy Grail for him and fellow Sheffield youngsters Joel Walker and Adam Duffy.

Some players have criticised the Barbican Centre, where the UK Championship is currently being staged, over the last couple of days but amateur potter Travis believes the venue is “absolutely marvellous” although he concedes: “There is only one better and that’s The Crucible.

“I try to get to the semis or the final every year. I’ll be going this year, definitely – hopefully on the table. That would be a dream come true.

“Coming from Sheffield it is massive. There are three of us – myself, Joel and Adam – and a couple of other young lads. We all support each other so that’s the good thing about it.”

Travis faces Norwegian Kurt Maflin in the second round of the UK Championship.
