Homegrown hotshot Adam Duffy is just one win away from qualifying for this month’s Betfred World Snooker Championship.
And if he does he will become the first player from Sheffield to represent the city at the famous Crucible Theatre.
Ecklington potter Duffy demonstrated all of his battling qualities this afternoon as he fought back from 6-3 down overnight to clinch a fine 10-7 win over compatriot Sam Baird at Ponds Forge.
And in doing so the ambitious 26-year-old secured a place in the final qualifying round for a place at snooker’s very own ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
Having dropped off the professional tour last year, left-hander Duffy has only made the main draw of one ranking event this season, reaching the second round of the Indian Open in March.
But the amateur cueman showed his resolve by winning seven of the next eight frames to stun Baird and deservedly progress to the final phase.
Next up is a showdown with Welshman Jamie Jones, tomorrow 11am and 7pm, for a place in the first round proper at the Crucible.
