SHEFFIELD-based Chinese cueman Ding Junhui and former Rotherham potter Shaun Murphy will kick off this season’s new Snooker League tonight.

Former UK and Masters champion Ding and 2005 world champion Murphy will clash over the best of six frames at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness.

And with reigning champion Ronnie O’Sullivan out, both players will fancy their chances of winning the £50,000 first prize.

Both players have a number of group matches over the next couple of months as they look to qualify for the competition’s showcase semi-finals on Saturday 24th November. Matchroom Sport chairman, Barry Hearn, commented: “The league has always been about taking top class snooker around the country and allowing fans who don’t perhaps live near to one of the major tournaments the opportunity to see some of the biggest names in the game.”
