RONNIE O’Sullivan, who lifted his fourth world title in Sheffield last May, has pulled out of the rest of the 2012-13 season because of “personal issues” in a move that casts fresh doubts on whether he will ever play again.

Regarded as one of the best players ever to pick up a cue, O’Sullivan has played just one competitive match since his Crucible triumph.

The 36-year-old has battled depression and recently suffered badly with glandular fever but his manager, Django Fung, stressed there were a raft of causes for O’Sullivan, nicknamed ‘The Rocket’, withdrawing from the sport.
