Sheffield Wednesday have been told to stump up £2million for Watford defender Daniel Pudil, The Star can reveal.

The Hornets are willing to offload the left-back, who spent last season on loan with Wednesday as they lost to Hull City in the Championship Play-Off final.

But I understand the Premier League outfit have slapped a hefty price tag on Pudil.

Wednesday want to re-sign Pudil on a permanent basis and, ideally, would like to bring him back in time for pre-season training, which begins on July 4.

Discussions have taken place between the two clubs, although it is thought that the Owls are reluctant to meet the Hornets asking price. Wednesday rate Pudil highly but are keen to do a deal at a lower price.

It is no secret the Owls tried to turn Pudil’s temporary switch into a permanent transfer last January but they failed to reach an agreement on a valuation.

Pudil, who turns 31 in September, has one year left to run on his Watford contract.

Pudil, an unused substitute in the Czech Republic’s defeat to Spain in the European Championships yesterday, hopes to return to Hillsborough.

“Sheffield Wednesday want to keep me but there is negotiations to be done,” he recently said. “It must be arranged by the clubs.”
