Sheffield stars Jessica and Abby nominated for top award

Sheffield AC multi-events star, Jessica Ennis and Sheffield-born metric mile ace Abby Westley have both been shortlisted for the European Athletics Rising Star award.

Ennis, 21 has been selected on the basis of her outstanding season, in which she established herself among the World’s top multi-eventers.

The Millhouses-based Sheffield University capped a remarkable summer with a superb fourth-place heptathlon finish at the World Championships in Japan.

Former Hallamshire Harrier, Westley had a breakthrough summer also, with the 20-year-old taking exceptional victories at the European Cup First League on her Great Britain senior debut and the European U-23 1500m championship. The Loughborough Students AC member topped her track campaign by reaching the semi-finals in the 1500m, at the World Championships.
