Sheffield’s Abbie Taylor ready to take on world

Have your say

SHEFFIELD’S Abbie Taylor has London on her mind as she prepares for this weekend’s UCI BMX World Championships at the NIA in Birmingham.

Taylor, aged 18, who is originally from Ecclesfield but is now based in Manchester with the British BMX team, has a chance of snatching a spot at this summer’s Olympic Games if she can out-pace fellow Brit Shanaze Reade.

She said: “We get a host’s spot in the Olympics because it’s in London so there’ll be two of us going for it.

“I’ve not ridden against Shanaze this year yet. I want to get out of the qualifying part of the competition and through to the last 16.

“It’d be really exciting to make it with it being in my home country.”
