Sheffield fighter Smedley bidding for a perfect ten

NICKI Smedley takes on a fighter this weekend who has been in with the best.

The Woodthorpe light-welterweight boxes Polish veteran Dariusz Snarski at The Point, Dublin, on Saturday.

Snarski has lost 25 of his 46 fights, and at 38 years of age, is past his prime.

But his record shows that in 2002, he went 10 rounds with Alex Arthur, current WBO super-featherweight champion.

Snarski has only lost one of his last five and is in good shape.

But Smedley's trainer Richard Poxon believes Saturday's test will help Smedley's progression up the rankings.

Smedley has won all nine professional fights.

The match is on the undercard of Bernard Dunne v Kiko Martinez, a European title fight at super-bantamweight.

company Crusteel Ltd hold a charity golf outing tomorrow - and guest of honour will be a former World champion boxer Tim Witherspoon.

The annual event at Bondhay Golf Course, Worksop, is in memory of sales manager Peter Bradbury, who died several years ago from cancer.

Crusteel asked its suppliers to donate raffle prizes and boxing promoter/local businessman Dennis Hobson senior offered to bring along two time heavyweight champion of the World "Terrible" Tim Witherspoon.

Rick Lowe, managing director, said: "I was absolutely shocked when Dennis said he would like to donate more than a golf bag or bottle of whisky!"
