Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club lands sponsorship deal to back development of youngsters

Sheffield-based insolvency and business turnaround experts Wilson Field has partnered with Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club to help bring through the next tranche of sporting talent.

The company, which has its headquarters on Ecclesall Road South, has been unveiled as a corporate sponsor this season.

The club is one of the oldest established clubs in the area based at Abbeydale Park in Sheffield and runs 13 junior sides from under 6s through to under 17s and is also home to the Michael Vaughan Cricket Academy.

Both Michael Vaughan and Joe Root came through the ranks and Roots’ brother Billy currently plays for the club.

Collegiate’s first team plays in the prestigious ECB Yorkshire South Premier League while the second team plays in South Yorkshire League Championship and the third team plays in Division 3.

The Vice President’s XI plays in Division 1 in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire League and the Yorkshire and Derbyshire Second team plays in Division 5. The Sunday side competes in the Barnsley & District League.

Richard Ibbotson, club chairman, said: “Children of all ages and ability are encouraged to come and join us to take an active part in the game of cricket.

“This support from local businesses is vital to the club. It will allow us to encourage even more youngsters into the game through our youth set up.”
