Sharks new signing comes in from the cold

Sheffield Sharks have added experience to their new look squad with the signing of forward Steve Parillon.

The former Brighton Bears small forward, who played in Iceland last season, will be the elder statesman of Peter Scantlebury’s team at just 28 but has valuable playing time in the BBL, which should help his new colleagues settle in.

“It was important that we have a guy that knows the league because the majority of the rest of the squad will be new to British basketball,” said Scantlebury.

Parillon is the Sharks’ second major signing in two days after the club announced that Chester Jets point-guard Alto Virgil has signed.

While Virgil will add some sparkle to the Sharks backcourt, Scantlebury says Parillon will probably be under-appreciated because of his businesslike manner.

“He’s one of those guys that goes unnoticed most of the time but then you look at his stats and he’s got 17-points and six rebounds or something like that. He’s the ultimate ‘glue’ player that holds everyone together.”

With the Sharks welcoming Scottish Rocks to the EIS in a fortnight Scantlebury’s line-up is slowly beginning to take shape.

Justice Graham and Virgil will alternate between the two guard spots and Parillon will start at small forward, but it is the as yet unnamed big men who will be pivotal to Sharks’ success according to Scantlebury.
