Sharks let go of Lawson

Sheffield Sharks have released guard Perry Lawson ahead of tomorrow's home match against Milton Keynes Lions.

Lawson, a former Newcastle Eagles player, was on a week-to-week contract with the Sharks and had performed well prompting speculation that he could be offered a permanent deal.

However, with the signing and arrival of Anthony Virgil last week coach Peter Scantlebury now has enough flexibility in the backcourt. Scantlebury was still sad to see the former England international leave the club though.

"It's a shame to lose Perry, but he was only signed until Anthony came in. Financially we just can't do it."

Sharks and Lions have both started the season brightly only suffering their first losses last weekend.

Sheffield fell to a shock overtime loss at home against London Capital, before bouncing back to defeat league champions Guildford Heat the following day, while Lions went down in a thriller against the Heat on Friday.
