Ruthless win put county title in reach

CAPTAIN Chris Adams believes winning the LV County Championship for the second year running is within Sussex's grasp after the ruthless manner in which they dispatched Yorkshire at Hove.

Sussex take on Durham next week before rounding off their season against relegated Worcestershire, and Adams believes his men are peaking at the right time.

Victory by an innings and 261 runs inside three days over Yorkshire took them back to the top of the table and they also have a match in hand.

Yorkshire’s captain Darren Gough, forced to miss the match with a sore left shin, is expected to be fit for Sunday’s Pro40 game against Kent at Canterbury.

n Nottinghamshire, in second in Division Two, turned the screw at Chesterfield where Derbyshire trail by 201 runs with seven second innings wickets remaining.

Having been bowled out for 205 in reply to the visitors’ 548 for nine declared thanks to captain Stephen Fleming’s 243, the Kiwi then enforced the follow-on and saw Derbyshire reach 142 for three at stumps.
