Tigers beaten in National League Two debut

SHEFFIELD Tigers were beaten in their debut in National Division Two (North), losing 27-13 at Bromsgrove.

Tigers were without former Rotherham Titan Pete Swatkins, the influential Nick Pearson and Andy Barnes.

Left winger Jamie Broadly touched down and Jonny West kicked a penalty in the first half as Tigers trailed 13-8. But Bromsgrove ran in two converted tries early in the second half to go 27-8 ahead.

Winger Callum Mackenzie touched down after 65 minutes to narrow the gap, the chance coming after a superb long pass from Jon Feeley. Westoe visit Dore Moor this Saturday.

Barnsley reached the second round of the Yorkshire Shield with a 34-12 victory over Wath upon Dearne.

Winger Scott Hinchcliffe touched down after just three minutes, and flanker Joe South added another on 10 minutes which stand-off Andrew Appleyard converted.

Wing forward Marlon Wragg added a third try to put Barnsley 17-0 ahead before centre Steve Mason touched down for Wath on 38 minutes and full-back Adam West converted.

Appleyard added a penalty on 48 minutes to make it 20-7, but Wath continued to push and narrowed the gap with Ben Myers’ try on 51 minutes.

Barnsley had further tries from Hinchcliffe and centre Aaron Gaunt, both converted by Appleyard.

On Saturday, Barnsley entertain West Park Leeds in their first league clash of the season, while Wath go to Bradford Salem.

In friendlies Sheffield went down 21-17 at Midlands side Paviors, while Chesterfield beat Mosborough 22-10.

Rotherham Phoenix came out on top after a triangular event against Rotherham Clifton and Hemsworth.

Phoenix beat Clifton 33-0, while Hemsworth ran out 31-0 winners against Clifton.

In the final, Phoenix beat Hemsworth 9-0, with three Tom Jenkinson penalties.

This Saturday, Rotherham Phoenix entertain Thornensians in Yorkshire Three, while Sheffield Medicals play Baildon in Yorkshire Four.
