Rotherham Titans, after two weeks of competing in the British and Irish Cup, return to Championship action tonight at London Scottish, sixth in the league, and four places behind the Clifton Lane club who are second on 17 points.

Titans’ coach Lee Blackett is delighted to be able to pick Irish full back Sean Scanlon who has recovered from the shoulder injury suffered in the first game of the season against Moseley. “Sean came on for 15 minutes last weekend against Connacht and did really well” he said.

“He inspires confidence in other players who trust him to do the right thing and Sean is a steady option to have at full back.

“We are thrilled that such an important player has got over an injury which has seen him miss three league games. We need Sean’s strength at full back against a London Scottish side who are strong and improving.” Scanlon’s return means that Michael Keating, who has been playing at full back, goes back to his usual position on the right wing at the expense of Jamie Broadley who is one of the replacements.

Knowing how tough the contest will be at the Athletic Ground in Richmond, Blackett is also relieved that Rotherham’s leading points’ scorer, Juan Pablo Socino, has recovered fully from a leg injury.

If Rotherham are to cause an upset by beating London Scottish at home, they will need Socino to be at his most accurate when it comes to taking penalty opportunities and conversions.

With Alfie To’oala still absent because of a hamstring injury, the powerful Laurence Pearce starts at number eight in a back row which is completed by Ed Williamson and Ali Birch. Rotherham may face two players who were signed by Scottish from the Titans towards the end of last season: hooker Ted Stagg and winger Mike Doneghan.

This evening’s opponents who, like Rotherham have won three of their four games in the Championship, have beaten Ealing,Nottinghan and Plymouth.

Titans: Scanlon, Keating, Gill, Socino, Wilson, Murphy, Mulchrone, Gadd, Cruse, Quigley, Maddison, Sanderson, Williamson, Birch, Pearce.

Replacements: Preece, Dias, Tampin, Thomas, Rieder, White, Broadley.
