PLAYERS who performed well during the recent win at Plymouth in the British and Irish Cup have been rewarded with places in the Titans’ side to take on Jersey in the Channel islands tomorrow.

Centre Palepoi Nonu, flanker Joe Ellyatt and winger Michael Doneghan have been selected to start the Championship game against opponents who are second from bottom in the league.

Rotherham coach Alex Codling, whose team has been forced to train indoors at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield because of the snow and ice, says they have had to make the best of a bad job.

“We have not been able to train properly outside for two weeks. It’s been tough but the facilities in Sheffield are excellent. We are excited about going to play in Jersey for the first time in Rotherham’s history and we can expect a tough battle. The Jersey scrum is strong, but following our fine result in Plymouth, we are full of confidence. We are playing opposition which struggled to begin with in the Championship but now Jersey have found their feet.

“One of our players who’s particularly eager to be going back is Ellyatt because before coming to Rotherham he was playing for Jersey.”
