NEWLY-elected captain Matt Challinor will lead Doncaster Knights into battle in today’s first pre-season friendly at relegated Newcastle Falcons, who will join the Castle Park club in this season’s Championship.

The second-rower, who was vice-captain last season, has exchanged places with last season’s captain, Chris Hallam.

“Matt is in a good position to lead the side; he is in the thick of it,” head coach Glen Kenworthy told The Star after the announcement was made on Thursday night, “He is well respected by the rest of the squad and he’s one of those guys that when he asks players to do something everybody stops talking and just does it. He’s a good leader and a link between the coaching staff and the players.”
