As Rotherham Titans prepare for the first leg of the promotion play-offs against Bristol at Ashton Gate on Saturday, they have received a timely boost.

Ulster flanker Ali Birch, who has been a significant success in his two seasons at Clifton Lane, has signed a new contract at Clifton Lane and will be staying at the club for the 2015-16 Championship campaign.

Birch made his Rotherham debut in September 2013 and has played 55 games in both the Championship and the British and Irish Cup, scoring nine tries. “Ali is a solid professional and has really proved himself since he’s been here” said coach Lee Blackett.

“The fact that he has re-signed is 100 per cent in the interests of the Titans.

“ We have two of the best number seven forwards in the league in Jack Preece and Ali,they are both excellent players and Rotherham are blessed to have them.

“ Ali has been consistently good this season and is one of the reasons why Rotherham have finished again in the top four of the Championship,” said Blackett.
