Rotherham Titans should be mentally and physically refreshed after several days off, as they report back for training today ahead of their home Championship clash against Jersey Reds on Saturday.
Coach Justin Burnell will be able to call on the knowledge of prop Danny Herriott,23, who joined Rotherham in the summer after two seasons with Jersey.
The 19 stone forward began his career at his local club in Kent, Deal and Betteshanger, three years at the Northampton Saints’ academy before moving to the Channel Islands.
“I played against Rotherham while at Jersey and I remember the Titans crowd always getting stuck into us.
“We always had a good pack at Jersey and I played plenty of games for them in the league, but I was looking to return to the mainland and living in Jersey is very expensive.
“I like it up here, the atmosphere at the club is good and my daughter, Lola, was born in Rotherham in August.
“I’ve been impressed with the coaching, Justin is down to earth and says how it is.We are a young side and we are still searching for consistency which is the key in the Championship.
“There is never an easy game in this league and you have to give 100 per cent all the time. Competition for places is strong and I have friendly rivalry with Joe Rees and Ian Williams. We push each other hard in training but if one of us is selected ahead of the other, we back each other up.
“We have a new team at Rotherham, we are starting to gel, the banter is good and we’ve been unlucky in a couple of games where we’ve lost by a point,” says Herriott.
Jersey, too, signed several new players, including ex-Rotherham forwards Max Argyle and Mark Tampin, and centre Jordan Davies.
After losing badly at Ealing (50-24) where they conceded eight tries in the last league game, Rotherham, now 10th in the Championship, urgently need to win.
Coming to Clifton Lane, Jersey have the same record as the Titans-three wins in eight matches- but have more points-18 to Rotherham’s 16.
Rotherham will be strengthened by the return of the six dual registered players from Gloucester.
