Rotherham Titans have made two changes to the side for this Sunday’s derby at Clifton Lane against Yorkshire Carnegie.
In the pack, Jack Preece starts at hooker in place of Charlie Maddison and in the backs, Lloyd Hayes, a regular last season, takes over from new signing Will Owen.
There is a slight doubt as to whether Australian number eight Tim Cree – who scored on debut in the win over Ealing last weekend – will play because he suffered a bang to the head but if he passes a fitness test as expected in today’s training session, he will start.
“What we have been working on this week following the Ealing match is the importance of taking scoring opportunities,” explained Titans’ coach Mark Jones. “We created a lot in our first game, but we didn’t take them all, so I’ve been stressing how essential it is to take them when we are in a position to do so.
“But I was pleased with a lot of what we did and I can tell you it is far easier to put things right when you’re winning than losing.
“As far as the change in the backs is concerned, Owen didn’t do a lot wrong against Ealing but at this early stage of the season, it makes sense to look at players and that’s why Hayes has come in.”
On the bench, scrum half Andy Davies returns from injury and may come on in the second half to replace Luke Carter, who made his Titans debut last Sunday.
Forwards James Elliot, Josh Redfern and Toby Salmon have been loaned to National One side Darlington Mowden Park.
“It’s important for these lads, who are all in their early 20s, to get game time. That’s far better for their development than sitting on the bench,” says forwards’ coach Steve Salvin.
