Rotherham Titans have moved quickly to replace the injured prop Anton O'Donnell, who broke his ankle last Saturday, an injury which will stop him playing until at least mid-March.
Coach Andre Bester has signed on loan former Titans prop Ben Prescott, who has been playing for Irish province Leinster.
Prescott, a top quality forward at the level in which Rotherham play, left the Titans last summer to join Nottingham before being snapped up by Leinster.
He could make his debut in Sunday's derby showdown with Doncaster Knights at Castle Park along with fellow new boy Agustin Smidt.
At 6ft 7ins tall, Smidt is one of the tallest players in the British game. The 25-year-old second row forward impressed in this week's training sessions, and if he plays in Sunday's British and Irish Cup tie, he should dominate the line out, giving Rotherham a big advantage.
Bester is still pondering his starting 15 for Doncaster, where his side played well but lost in the Championship 26-13 in October.
With success in the league Rotherham's priorit, Bester maybe tempted to field a full strength team at Doncaster.
It is essential that Rotherham's team gels going into the Boxing Day Championship match against bottom of the league Birmingham and Solihull.
On Sunday, Rotherham also face opponents who were beaten in mid-week in the league, so Doncaster will be keen to return to winning ways and show their fans that they are a far better team than the one which lost 37-16 to table-topping Worcester Warriors on Wednesday.
So the cup tie this weekend, certainly from Rotherham's point of view, is assuming much more importance than normally associated with a fixture of this standing.
The derby is also another opportunity for Rotherham forward Ben Harris, who has played all his league rugby in the second row for the Titans, to continue his apprenticeship as a prop.
Harris, 6ft 5ins tall, has the physique required to develop into a fine prop if he continues to show the promise he displayed against Llandovery, his first start in the front row.
