Knights seek B&I Cup double over leaders

DONCASTER Knights boss Clive Griffiths has rung the changes for today’s return British & Irish Cup Pool 8 clash against Llandovery at Castle Park (2.15pm)

Griffiths, who took the opportunity to have a look at several fringe players in last weekend’s 16-13 win at Llandovery, has made ten changes to his starting line-up in their top-of-the-table clash.

Will Simpson returns to outside-centre following a three-week suspension and will be looking to impress Griffiths. Dante Mama, who switches to the wing, makes room for him as Griffiths looks at various combinations.

Canadian international Connor Braid, who operated at full-back last week, reverts back to the fly-half role he occupied on his debut in the crucial Championship win over Jersey a fortnight ago.

Hooker Ben Sowery is handed his second start since joining Knights in the summer and Phil Hoy makes a return to the starting line-up for the first time since early October.

Captain Matt Challinor drops into the bac-row where he will pack down alongside David Bradford and fans favourite Chris Planchant.

Llandovery, who are challenging for honours in the Welsh Premiership, include former Knights duo Bryn Griffiths and Cerith Rees, signed by Griffiths in his first spell in charge.

Although pleased to see his charges scrape home last weekend courtesy of a late penalty by Jamie Lennard, the Welshman is looking for improvement in key areas.

“We’ve won our last two games but there are still a lot of things to work on such as game management,” he told The Star.” We’ve got to be more clinical in attack and make sure that we don’t kick good ball away; it’s a crime at times.”

n Knights: Lennard, Mama, Simpson, Symons, Lewis, Braid, Hallam, Davies, Sowery, Francis, Hoy, Parsons, Challinor, Bradford, Planchant. Replacements: Buckley, McGovern, Rawling, Pailor, Silver, Tincknell, Flockhart.
