Four changes as Titans bid to stay in the hunt

Have your say

Rotherham’s coach Andre Bester has made four changes to the Titans’ side for tomorrow’s clash at Clifton Lane against Cornish Pirates in the fourth game in Pool B of the promotion play-offs (2pm) .

Rotherham’s chances of reaching the semi-finals are already slim following defeats by Bedford and then Pirates in Penzance last Sunday.

However, if the Titans, bottom of Pool B on four points, are to have any hope of qualifying, they must beat Pirates.

In the pack, Bester has brought back hooker Dan Baines in place of Ted Stagg, and in the second row Adrian Griffiths returns to the replacements’ bench instead of Scottish forward Neale Patrick who is preferred.

Semisi Taulava resumes his place at number eight, and in the back line, winger Peter Homan takes over from Ed Tellwright.

As well as concentrating on the play-offs Bester is also working flat out recruiting players for next season.

It is essential for Rotherham’s future that he recruits well and strengthens the squad because next season the Championship is going to be a much tougher competition.

It seems certain that in 2012-13, only four teams at the top will take part in the promotion play-offs instead of the present eight.

The side finishing bottom will be relegated to National One if the RFU approves proposed changes.

Hooker Baines is the only squad member to have announced his intention to remain at Clifton Lane but it appears that several who have been offered new terms are being tempted to stay.

Titans: Foden, Hamilton, McCall, Nonu, Monahan, Law, Williams, Cahill, Baines, Hooper, Maddison, Patrick, Copeland, Dougall, Taulava. Reps: Griffiths, Stagg, Kirwan, Kilbane, Vaioleti, Tellwright, Rhodes.
