Doncaster Knights will be looking to get their B&I Cup campaign off to a winning start when they entertain Leinster A at Castle Park tomorrow (2.30pm).
But director of rugby Clive Griffiths admits that he has been unable to give his charges the usual thorough pre-match briefing on the opposition.
“They’ve not played a game this season so the only footage available is of last season’s team so we’ve just concentrated on our own game in training this week and worked on things we need to do better than we did at Hartpury at the weekend,” said the Welshman, who reiterated he had no complaints over the last minute defeat.
“They were the better side, taught us a lesson and deserved to win,” he said. “We weren’t at our best and whereas we got away with it at London Scottish the previous week due to scoring some good tries - we got our backsides smacked on Saturday.
“As is always the case the players can’t wait to try and put things right following a defeat and we’ll be fielding our strongest possible side on the day.
“As I say, we don’t know much about their team but we do know they’ve got big pool to select from and they’ll be taking it seriously as Ulster A did last season.
Both Owen Evans and Junior Bulumakua have been ruled out after suffering head injuries last weekend - the latter’s absence leaving Griffiths with just nine fit backs. Prop Richard List suffered a calf injury in the same game.
Better news is that Canadian international back-rower Aaron Carpenter, who missed the last two games due to the same HIA ruling, has been cleared to resume.
