Prop Richard List will again be missing when Doncaster Knights travel down to Ashton Gate this weekend for the club’s second B&I Cup pool game against Bristol Rugby.
List suffered a calf injury in the last minute Championship defeat at Hartpury and was ruled out of last Saturday’s opening B&I Cup game against Leinster A.
“We won’t risk Richard this weekend but hopefully we’ll have him back for the (televised) league game against Cornish Pirates on Sunday week,” said director of rugby Clive Griffiths.
Griffiths is monitoring several players who picked up injuries in the Leinster game including summer signing from Rotherham Charlie Foley, who has played in three positions – centre, fly-half and full-back this season.
Foley limped off with an ankle injury at the weekend after setting up a try for wing Tyson Lewis – also a doubt - but is desperate to play against the current Championship leaders having been brought up in the Bristol area.
“Charlie, who I thought played well on Saturday, is one of several players we’ll be making a late decision on,” said Griffiths. “The fact that the game is on Sunday gives them all an extra day to recover.”
Impressed by teenage back-rower Sam Jones in the last two games, Griffiths says he might need to add another one or two Academy players to his squad if senior players are ruled out.
The Welshman, meanwhile, is more upbeat about the 41-17 defeat by Leinster following the weekly team review than he was earlier in the week.
He claims the referee ignored calls by his touch judges in the build-up to a couple of the five Leinster tries.
“We also got a bad call at 20-12 and if we’d got it back to 20-19 I think we’d have gone on to win the game,” he said.
