Chris Planchant has answered an SOS call from Clive Griffiths and agreed to return to Doncaster Knights.

The experienced number eight retired from full time rugby at the end of last season, moving to Doncaster Phoenix in order to concentrate on his teaching career.

But Planchant this week agreed to return to Knights and could now feature in their vital top of the table clash with Esher at Castle Park on Saturday (12.45pm).

Griffiths: “I’m pleased to have the big lad from Swansea back with us.

“He had no hesitation in coming back to help us and we’re grateful for that.

“We’re really struggling right now, particularly with the forwards, so it’s great to have Chris back.”

Colin Phillips, Ben Hunter and Louis Spencer were all added to Knights’ horrendous injury list following last weekend’s surprise setback at Blaydon.

The 22-17 defeat saw Esher leapfrog Knights at the National One summit.

Griffiths is also scouring the loan market in a bid to bolster his squad before the weekend.

All Black legend Jonah Lomu wings in to Doncaster on Sunday for an evening of entertainment at Castle Park.

The former New Zealand star will be guest speaker and also take part in a question and answer session following a two-course dinner.

Mark Willis, Knights’ commercial manager, said: “We hope that the event will really catch the interest of rugby fans not only in Doncaster but right across the region.”

Tickets priced £30 can be booked by phoning 1302 831388.
