A player with heaps of experience, Greg Eden’s signing brings some Super League class and stability to an Eagles’ side that has been struggling for consistent results so far in their campaign.

With successful spells at Super League’s Huddersfield Giants, Hull Kingston Rovers and Castleford Tigers, the latter team in which he has spent the most of his career and scored 112 tries in just 122 appearances for, his try-scoring talent will provide the side with an edge that can boost their offensive efforts.

After making the switch to Championship rugby in 2024, he has also featured for Halifax Panthers, Featherstone Rovers, Hunslet and North Wales Crusaders (along with a short stint for Bradford Bulls back in the Super League earlier this season, in which he scored on his debut against Hull Kingston Rovers), showcasing his adaptability to both divisions of Rugby League.

In an interview earlier this week, Greg addressed questions about how he is settling in at this new club.

He said, “I think all of the boys are refreshed from the ten days off, it was a nice reset session running against the Hunslet amateurs. I've done that kind of thing with my previous teams before, and it’s always good for both teams.

“Everyone has been welcoming. I know a few players from my previous times at other clubs, and I know Craig (Lingard) from a previous spell at Castleford.

If you go into a team and you don’t know a single person, it can be hard, but if you have a few connections you can bounce off of them, and it makes the first day a little bit easier.”

Commenting on what qualities he will bring to the Eagles, he remarked, “I am a senior player now, so I bring quite a bit of experience. I still have some speed, so that as well, and I am a team player and will try to fit in wherever Craig wants me to play.”

He also added, “It's been a bit of a strange year for me so far, the spell at North Wales (Crusaders) did not go to plan for obvious reasons, and then a short one-month deal at Bradford and then onto this now. I am looking to cement myself here and play some good rugby towards the back end of the year and climb the table with Sheffield.”

This Saturday’s fixture against Barrow Raiders will mark his debut appearance for the club, which is an opportunity Greg seems ready to prove himself in.

“Barrow have been playing some good rugby this year, they are around the top of the table for a reason. They play some expansive stuff, and they have some good players. But we have what it takes to match them and get a win up there. I think Craig said earlier in one of the meetings that we are one of the three teams that have beaten them this year, so that gives us the confidence to go up there.”
