A PACK of experienced forwards have been given the weekend off as Sheffield Eagles left for France today.

Aston is using the Anglo-French Challenge game at Carcassone to bring in ‘squad’ players and give a chance to a couple of young reserves.

Influencing the decision is the need to keep players fresh for the important Championship game at Leigh Centurions next Thursday.

“It’s a good opportunity for the young lads and a chance of a rest for some who have had a lot of game time.”

All those given the weekend off are forwards – props Jack Howieson, Liam Higgins, back rowers Michael Knowles, Joe Hirst, Peter Green and hooker Andrew Henderson.

In come Alex Rowe and Ryan Hepworth, and hooker Pat Smith, who have been sidelined in recent weeks, for the game at the Stade Albert Domec, tomorrow evening (6pm UK time).

Given a taste of the senior grade are reserve hooker or half-back Nathan Walmsley and forward Leigh Sanders plus new signing fullback or winger Jack Latus.

Eagles squad: Laulu-Toagagae, Finigan, Yere, Taulapapa, Turner, Morrison, Latus, Brown, Brambani, Walmsley, Smith, Hepworth Stringer, Szostak, Straugheir, McDonald, Rowe, Sanders, Scott.
