SHEFFIELD Eagles coach Mark Aston has not ruled out a shock return for half-back Simon Brown for the play-off round one game with Batley Bulldogs.

Brown, who is set to join York Knights next month, is in the mix for the knockout clash with back rowers Duane Straugheir and Joe Hirst.

It would mean changing the team that won 30-20 at Dewsbury Rams to ensure a top four finish and a home game with Batley at Don Valley, on Sunday.

“The first 20 minutes at the start of each half Dewsbury couldn’t handle us but we weren’t clinical which is what I wanted and talked about before the game,” said Aston.

“We will be looking at making sure that people do what they are supposed to do. We know all about play-off football, we got to the semi-final two years ago and the final last year so we know it’s tough.

“People like Simon, Duane and Joe didn’t play (at Dewsbury) but all will definitely be in contention for Batley.

The Eagles ended the Championship season with 12 wins from 18 games.
