SHEFFIELD Eagles’ coach Mark Aston is pondering whether to stay with raw power or go for a lighter touch for the game at Barrow Raiders.
It has come down to a choice between chunky prop Eddie Battye or leaner back rower Sam Scott. Aston has a spot fill for a forward substitute on Saturday following the loss of power forward Alex Rowe (broken arm.)
Battye’s aggressive style would be a more like-for-like replacement but GB student international Scott offers a strong running option. “Whenever Eddie has played he’s done well and Sam’s done a job too – we’ll have to see” said Aston.
The need to match a big Barrow pack could tip the balance in Battye’s favour and see the 20-year-old from Oxspring play his first senior game for four months.
Aston added: “Eddie’s a great kid. The unfortunate thing for him is that he’s a prop forward and we started with four experienced, big front rowers. It’s tough when you are waiting for the nod. But it’s been good for us to know that he’s ready. I’ve watched him with the reserves; he’s playing well.”
