SHEFFIELD Eagles staged a nerve-tingling second-half come back to edge out Championship strugglers Hunslet, writes James Collins.
The victory lifted the Eagles into third place in the Championship and left the Hawks without a win in 14 games.
The Eagles trailed 20-12 at half-time and had to wait until two tries from second-rower Joe Hirst to make sure of three vital points.
Winger Nev Morrison celebrated his new contract with the Eagles by going in at the corner to open the scoring. A 60-metre break by Quentin Laulu-Togagae started the move that saw hooker James Davey go under the posts. Simon Brown added both goals.
Hunslet helped by a run of penalties hit back with three tries in seven minutes.
Centre Liam Welham dropped on a chip at the corner and hooker Luke Haigh went under the posts.
Luke Halliwell kicked the second goal and Hawks took the lead with winger Lee Brickwood taking an offload and touching down near the flag.
Hawks were controlling the ball and forced the Eagles into errors and conceding penalties.
Hunslet rounded off a strong first half with Brickwood sending Welham in for his second try and Halliwell added the goal for a 20-12 lead to the Hawks.
Eagles battered the Hunslet line from the restart but had to wait 10 minutes before Duane Straugheir followed up a Dominic Brambani kick for a try. Brown added the goal to narrow the gap to two points.
Eagles regained the lead with two tries in three minutes from Hirst.
Alex Szostak set up the first and a Davey break the second. Brown added both goals.
