EAGLES new signing Patch Walker is looking forward to renewing his partnership at half-back with Dominic Brambani.

The pair were successful play-makers at Dewsbury Rams before Brambani joined Sheffield.

“I think we’ll be sound together,” said Walker. “We had a pretty good season at Dewsbury (2011). We ended up clicking towards the end of the season and won the last eight out of 10 games.”

Coach Mark Aston’s aim is to freshen up the squad to defend their Championship title. The 26-year-old provides a replacement for Simon Brown who moved to York Knights. Aston hopes to build on the half-backs’ Dewsbury experience but says Walker must learn Eagles’ style of play.

“What we do is different to the Dewsbury way,” he said. “We will work hard with Patch to get him understanding and adapted to our systems. Patch has a good kicking game and passes a ball well but we want to take the line on and he’ll be a threat. He’s big and strong and he’ll have the option of attacking the line himself.”

Walker, who lives in Barnsley, said: “I’d been at Dewbury for six years and fancied a change. I was a bit of the furniture there. Sheffield are always up there so it’s a good club to come to.”
