Sheffield Eagles hope to have skipper Mitch Stringer back for the trip to North Wales Crusaders tomorrow.
The prop forward was pulled out of the Challenge Cup game at Castleford Tigers with a knee strain but suffered no further reaction in training. Stringer’s power would boost a pack hit by injuries with Samoan international winger Misi Taulapapa used as an emergency loose-forward.
The Eagles will be facing newly-promoted Crusaders for the first time at the Racecourse Ground, Wrexham, tomorrow (kick-off 2.30pm).
A win will revive their stalled challenge for a top three spot in the Championship following the home defeat to Doncaster.
North Wales, led by Clive Griffiths who also coaches Doncaster Knight’s rugby union club, gained their third win of the season at Whitehaven last weekend.
Coach Mark Aston said: “It’s important that we go to North Wales and get something.
“It won’t be easy; Crusaders had a good win and are on their own patch.
“We need to build on the second half performance at Castleford when we had a real dig against the team second in the Super League.”
