Ben Jones was always on the losing side when he played against Sheffield Eagles so he’s backed a winner by joining them.
The prop forward has signed from Dewsbury Rams as the Eagles seek a third successive Championship title.
“Sheffield were very good; they were tough games,” said Jones. “They really contest the ball and take it up well and the outside backs are dangers. It’s a very strong team, very well drilled and you could see why they did so well.”
Coach Mark Aston believes the player at 6ft and 16 stone will make an impact. He added: “Ben’s a tough, uncompromising player with the best years ahead of him.”
The 25-year-old, who had a spell in the Super League with Harlequins, is likely to get an early chance to claim a first team place. Props Eddie Battye and Liam Higgins are both struggling to be fit for the start of the new season at Owlerton Stadium in February.
“It I get a chance, I’ll have to take it and stay in the team,” said Jones. “I need a good pre-season and I haven’t had that for a couple of years.”
