Sheffield Eagles marched into their third successive Grand Final after victory over Halifax in the play-off semi-finals last night.
They will defend their Championship title against either Featherstone Rovers or Batley Bulldogs who meet in the other eliminator on Sunday.
On the back of strong defence the Eagles took control of close game with half-back Patch Walker scoring two tries.
It’s a boost to morale as the club battles to find a new home in Sheffield with the bulldozers moving in at Don Valley Stadium.
An uncertain start by the Eagles saw Halifax took the lead with fullback Ryan Fieldhouse bouncing out of a couple of tackles before touching down Steve Tyrer added the goal. Crucially the Eagles defence held and they weathered the storm before showing their attacking flair with two tries in three minutes. Patch Walker went in from Dominic Brambani’s long pass.
On almost the next play fullback Quentin Laulu-Togagae took a reverse pass from Walker and race 45 metres to the line. Brambani added both goals.
Eagles dominated the rest of the half with a slick passing move ending with Brambani and Tom Anderson sending winger Misi Taulapapa in at the corner for an 16-6.
Scott Turner came close to extending the lead soon after the restart but Fax came back with centre Tyrer first to a Murrell high kick to touchdown.
The defence was strong and the Eagles bounced back with Laulu-Togagage putting in clearing runs.
Eagles edged ahead with Walker putting over a drop goal with 10 minutes to play.
The stand-off made sure of a place in the final sending in Scott Turner and went in for his second try in the final minute with Brambani finishing with four goals.
