SHEFFIELD Eagles’ hoodoo over Rovers continued as they ended the Championship leaders 100% record.

Late tries from winger Scott Turner and centre Menzie Yere gave the Eagles a repeat of last season’s Grand Final victory. They were only denied taking over top league spot with Fev taking a vital bonus point.

Prop forward Ben Gledhill, on loan from Salford, was the Eagles only change coming in for his debut for injured Liam Higgins. Rovers included winger Tom Hodson who scored 18 tries for Doncaster last season.

Eagles got off to a great start with a try in four minutes. A penalty gave field position and they switched the ball across the field with Andrew Henderson proving the short pass for second rower Michael Knowles to crash over.

It looked as if Eagles would build on the lead before a pass by Patch Walker was intercepted and winger Hodson had clear run through. Liam Finn added the goal.

A penalty gave Rovers a repeat set and prop Anthony England went under the posts. Finn added the goal.

Eagles got the try they needed before half-time with centre Tom Armstrong going for his sixth try of the season after a Dominic Brambani’s chip kick. The scrum half added the goal to cut Rovers lead to 12-10.

After the break, Eagles had a score ruled out but from a penalty they switched the ball for centre Yere to crash over with Brambani adding.

Eagles were on the charge with Henderson held near the line and Quentin Laulu-Togagae seemingly certain to score before slipping. Going into the final quarter Finn squeezed over and added the goal from wide out to put Rovers back ahead.

Eagles regained the lead yet again with Mitch Stringer producing a critical offload and winger Turner going over by the flag. Brambani added the touchline kick. With a minute to go Knowles got a pass out to Yere who crashed over for his second try. Brambani finished three goals from five attempts.
