Loan duo Stan Robin and Thibaut Margalet are set to make their Sheffield Eagles’ debut tonight in the crunch clash with Oldham.
The Catalans have been named in Mark Aston’s squad as the Eagles look to build on last Friday’s win over Featherstone Rovers.
Eagles are two points clear of the Roughyeds in the Championship standings and another victory would give them some breathing space ahead of fixtures against Leigh Centurions and London Broncos, the division’s top two.
“We have got some competition for places now,” Aston said. “We have four wingers competing for two places, Nathan Chappell has come in and given us competition at centre, Stan being here means we have four half-backs, we have a choice of hookers and we also options again in the front row. We are in a healthier place than we have been all season, hopefully that will get the best out of us over the next month.”
Aston has been given a further boost with ex-Oldham prop Adam Neal returning from sick leave, but George Tyson misses out against his former employers as he sits out the first of a two match ban following a red card at Swinton.
Oldham held the upper hand following the previous meeting this season at Bower Fold, after a 21-20 victory. Aston admitted the nature of the defeat still rankles.
“I am still smarting about throwing that game away at Oldham but it is not about them, it is about us now” he said. “We have to focus week after week on getting a little bit better. We always finish the season strongly. Let’s finish the season on a high now, we need to worry about ourselves and try and forget everyone else because we can still make this season successful by getting to the Shield final.”
Like the Eagles, Scott Naylor’s side ended a poor run of form last week after securing victory over fellow strugglers Whitehaven to stop a run of eight consecutive defeats.
Kick off at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park is 8pm.
