After last time out’s disappointing home defeat to Halifax Panthers, Head Coach Greg Brown demanded a response from his side, and the Eagles delivered in dramatic fashion.

Sheffield made the brighter start and opened the scoring inside four minutes when Sid Ramsey powered over for the game’s first try. Hull responded almost immediately through Josh Edwards, who crossed in the corner following the restart to level proceedings.

The Eagles quickly regained control as Ben Simpson finished well in the right corner before Ramsey grabbed his second of the afternoon to establish a 14-6 advantage after 16 minutes.

However, Hull seized momentum during the closing stages of the first half. A brace from Billy Swainger, combined with a score from Nathan Sherwood, helped the visitors edge in front despite England international Luis Domingos touching down for Sheffield in between. Hull went into the break narrowly ahead after a frantic opening 40 minutes.

The visitors extended their lead shortly after half-time when Edwards crossed for his second try of the contest, but Domingos once again responded immediately to keep Sheffield firmly in contention.

Swainger completed his hat-trick in the 48th minute to stretch Hull’s advantage to ten points, leaving the Eagles facing an uphill battle heading into the final half-hour.

But Sheffield showed tremendous resilience to turn the contest on its head with four unanswered tries in the closing stages.

Domingos completed his own hat-trick on the hour mark before Nash Jennings powered over in the corner. Joe Wink-Simmonds added an excellent touchline conversion to level the scores at 34-34 and swing momentum firmly in Sheffield’s favour.

Captain Stephen Reilly then produced a crucial moment with 11 minutes remaining, reacting quickest to pass to crash over in the left corner and put the Eagles ahead for the first time since the opening half.

Wink-Simmonds then sealed the victory late on with Sheffield’s ninth try of an absorbing encounter, completing a remarkable comeback and securing a deserved 44-34 triumph.

The Eagles now face a short break before returning to league action with an away trip to Halifax Panthers Wheelchair on Sunday 14th June (3pm kick-off).
