Sheffield Eagles: Shaun Pick chasing dream Wembley outing

Playing at Wembley will be a dream come true for Shaun Pick should he get the nod for Sheffield Eagles’ 1895 Cup showdown against Widnes this weekend.

Should the forward make Mark Aston’s 17 next weekend, it would mark an impressive turnaround for the ex-Toronto ace who was out of favour during the early stages of the campaign.

Pick has now been a fixture during the four-match winning run, and admits playing at Wembley would fulfil a boyhood ambition.

He told The Star: “It is something you dream about as a kid, everyone wants to play at Wembley and I'll be no different so if I am selected I'll be ecstatic.

“The lads here, we'll have never played in a stadium like it. We have players like Thacks (Anthony Thackeray) who have had a good career, he's 33 now and he's never played there so it is great for people like him. We are all looking forward to it.”

Pick, who was one of only a cluster of survivors from last season, has seen the tough times as well as the good, stating it will be a day which the fans deserve just as much as everyone involved with the club.

He added: “The fans deserve it, you always feel there is more of them with how loud they are, it'll be a great day out for them, we'll try and do it for them.

“Being on the road for four years, with a stadium to come and a Wembley appearance. Everything is going in the right direction for the club.”
