Sheffield Eagles kick off 2020 season with trip to Halifax as fixtures revealed

Sheffield Eagles will kick-off the 2020 Betfred Championship season with a trip to Halifax after next season’s fixtures were revealed.

Mark Aston’s side will begin their quest for a top five place next season against Fax at The Shay on Sunday 1st February (3pm) - a team which they beat twice away from home in all competitions last season.

The Eagles follow their opening round fixture with another away trip, taking on Leigh Centurions on Saturday 8th February, kick off 3pm.

Aston’s side host French side Toulouse Olympique in their first home game on Sunday 16th February, kick off 3pm.

The Eagles end the campaign on Sunday 6th September against newly promoted Whitehaven at the Olympic Legacy Park, kick off 3pm.

The Cumbrian side are also the Eagles’ opponents at the Summer Bash in a fixture which was confirmed last week. The two-day event will again take place at Blackpool FC’s Bloomfield Road stadium, with the Eagles taking on Haven on Sunday 31st May, 3.15pm.

Meanwhile, the RFL have confirmed that Golden Point Extra Time will be available in all Betfred Championship and League 1 fixtures next season – but with a different twist.

When a game is level at the sounding of the final hooter, each team will take one point for earning a draw – with a third competition point then made available to the first team to score in two five-minute periods of extra time.

The new rules will come into effect on the weekend of January 31 – February 2.
