Ryan Millar one of five leaving Sheffield Eagles ahead of 2027

Sheffield Eagles have announced the departure of key winger Ryan Millar along with several other players, in anticipation of the 2027 Betfred Championship season.

Five players have been announced to be leaving the Eagles over the past few weeks, with major changes being made throughout the side ahead of the 2027 campaign.

Perhaps the most notable player leaving is Ryan Millar, who developed through the Eagles’ academy and made his debut for the side way back in 2015. The winger contributed massively to the club, helping them lift silverware in 2019 when they won the 1895 Cup final against Widnes Vikings.

He left the club back in 2021 and represented both Bradford Bulls and Widnes Vikings, but made his return to Sheffield in 2024. Across both spells with the Eagles, he achieved 70 tries in 155 appearances.

Conner Bower will also be departing from Sheffield after 7 seasons of featuring for the side since his arrival back in 2020. The second-rower was a crucial player for the Eagles this season, scoring 8 tries and adding kicking to his repertoire to accomplish 7 goals too.

Hooker Reiss Butterworth joined the Eagles before the 2025 campaign, coming to the club from Hull Kingston Rovers, and across both seasons in Sheffield, he has made 44 appearances. He now leaves the Eagles to pursue new opportunities for the 2027 campaign.

Marcus Green was the next to be announced. The forward came to the Eagles back in 2025 on loan from Midlands Hurricanes, and then made a permanent move for 2026, but after only making 2 appearances for the club, along with 2 successful loan spells with Keighley Cougars and Rochdale Hornets, he now departs from Sheffield.

And the final departure announcement is young winger Jayden Billy, who made 7 appearances for the club back in 2025, but had only 1 pre-season chance this campaign, along with a short loan with North Wales Crusaders. He now also departs to seek more playing opportunities.
