Rugby League: Doncaster Toll Bar reach Yorkshire Cup quarter-finals

Doncaster Toll Bar Amateur Rugby League Club booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Yorkshire Cup following a patchy 42-20 win over Crigglestone on Saturday.

The Wakefield side were still in the game at the break when trailing by just 20-16.

But Toll Bar, whose first half points came from tries by Scott Smith, Zac Braham, Alex Palmer and Shaun Carey, two of which were converted by Joe Barron, pulled well clear after the break.

Gaz Carey, Shaun Carey, man-of-the-match Karl Mills and Shaun Roberts, who also kicked three goals, all touched down in an improved second half display.

“We played pretty poorly and never really got going at all,” said coach Ian Tattersall.

“To concede 20 points was very disappointing and is an area we will have to improve on in the coming weeks.

“We never really got out of second gear but the best of teams produce poor performances from time to time and no side plays well every week.

“I’m sure the lads will respond.”

Toll Bar will be away to Hull-based side Reckitts in the quarter-finals.

They visit Stainland Staggs in the Pennine League President’s Cup this weekend, while their second team host Leeds Underdogs in Division Four (East) at 2pm.

Toll Bar are currently top of the Pennine League Premier Division after winning three out of four league games.
