On loan forward Ben Gledhill will be given the chance to step into a key role for Sheffield Eagles.
The Salford Reds prop is set for a recall against Barrow Raiders in the Northern Rail Cup tomorrow.
It would push him into the spotlight to claim the starting place in the front row following the retirement of Jack Howieson.
“Ben couldn’t play last week because of the Challenge Cup now he’s back available but the question is do we put him back in there when the boys did so well against Halifax?” said coach Mark Aston. “That’s a decision we have to make but there are one or two that may be pulled out.”
A win at Don Valley Stadium (kick-off 3pm) would put the Eagles into second Cup quarter-final following their Challenge Cup triumph last weekend.
Young prop Eddie Battye has been starting at Mitch Stringer partner in the front row but Gledhill’s Super League experience could tip the balance.
Aston added: “There are few people knocking on the door, Connor Scott has been eighteenth man the last couple of weeks, Peter Green, Dario Esposito.
“Ben is on loan , we don’t know what the future holds for him and it’s hard for me to make a decision on him. Going forward he could be the ideal replacement for Jack Howieson. We need to have a look at him.”
