Sheffield Eagles are determined to defend the top spot in the league that they took with the win at Hunslet.
“It means everybody has to catch us now,” said coach Mark Aston. “We did what we needed to do, that’s all you can do just keep the momentum going and keep winning. It’s nine (wins) on the bounce now and that’s all that matters.”
The Eagles have taken a two-point lead at the top of the Championship and must win at Barrow on Sunday to keep ahead of Featherstone Rovers who have a game in hand and play at Leigh tomorrow.
The trip to Cumbria will be their third game in a punishing 10-day spell but Aston says he will demand one more big effort from his team. “Barrow are at home and that’s an advantage - we’ve got to make a long coach trip that can have an impact. It’s tough and we’re not going to be great every week, we were great against Halifax last Friday, we were okay at Hunslet,” he said.
“We need to go up to Barrow on Sunday and put in a great performance and then we have a few days where we can recuperate and get ready for Whitehaven the next weekend. We rested a few people against Hunslet and they can come back and freshen up the team.”
