Rams ‘derby’ to bring best out of Dons

Have your say

TOMORROW’S Northern Rail Cup Pool A clash between the Dons and Dewsbury Rams at the Keepmoat Stadium (3pm) could take on intensity of a local derby.

No fewer than five of the Doncaster squad (Chris Spurr, Liam Crawley, Stuart Sanderson, Paul Hughes and Mike Emmett) have played for the Championship side over the last year or so and coach Tony Miller admits that it will add a bit of spice to the game.

“I think some of the players didn’t think that they got a fair crack of the whip whilst they were there and will be looking to prove that they should have had more games,” said Miller.

Both sides go into the game boasting 50 per cent records from their two previous pool games

“We’ve got to beat Dewsbury first of all and if we do then I think it will be between ourselves, Dewsbury, Keighley and Toulouse,” said Miller.

“If we get through to the knockout stages then great, but if we don’t but still perform well then I’d still be pleased. “Realistically it would be a big ask to win the competition.”

The club’s Carnegie Challenge Cup third round tie against National Conference League Premier Division title challengers Thatto Heath, looks likely to be played at the Keepmoat Stadium on Saturday, March 5.
