DONS’ boss Tony Miller is leaving nothing to chance this year in the club’s pre-season build-up.
Players traditionally spend the first couple of weeks of pre-season training concentrating on weights before starting on rugby skills, but many teams were caught out by the wintry weather last year.
“The weather was awful last year during a lot of the pre-season campaign and we weren’t able to do much ball work prior to our pre-season friendlies,” said Miller, whose charges reported back this week. “We did a conditioning circuit using weights and various exercises on Wednesday and we also went outside and did some conditioning work using the ball and we did the same last night.
“A lot of what we will be doing will be based on fitness but we will also be doing some game-related stuff as well whether it be defence or attack.
“The weather was okay on Wednesday as it was last night, but you never know what’s around the corner at this time of the year.
“We’ve learnt from last year that you’ve got to try and work outside whenever you can.”
