Haka puts seal on a weekend when we ticked all the boxes

Have your say

WHAT a fantastic day it was on Sunday as we kicked off our Championship One campaign with a win over South Wales at the Keepmoat Stadium. Every thing was spot on off the field and on it.

It has been a while since we had a good crowd for a league game. Every hospitality box was full, we had five match sponsors, a very vocal crowd and on top of that the boys played really well, winning the game 40-10.

In the past when we have put an event on at games, and had all the ex-players there, the team have normally under-performed and got beaten. But hopefully everyone went away happy and will want to come back.

I must say the highlight for me was the kids doing the haka with so much passion. I would like to congratulate the community team for all their efforts in organising it. Well done!

It was great to see Vila Matuatia and the rest of the Kiwi boys at the game. I think big V turning up made a few of the old supporters’ day as they hold him in such high esteem. He told me after the match he really loves coming back to Donny and asked if I could thank everyone for the warm welcome he always gets.

I think we made some decent money for the Pike River Disaster Fund at the game. where we donated £2 from every paying adult. We have not got the final figure, but there will be a press release once we have every thing in.

I would just like to thank everyone who contributed. It was really touching. I know everyone back home will appreciate what the Dons have done for them.
